Gubi Floor Lamp G10

The new edition of the "G10" floor lamp, designed by Swedish-born designer Greta Magnusson Grossman in 1950, is being relaunched today by the Danish company Gubi. The lamp was the tenth piece that Grossman worked on for the Bergboms company, hence the name "G10". After leaving Stockholm in 1930 and settling on the west coast of the USA, she introduced the Californians to the unique style of Danish modernism, embodied primarily by Arne Jacobsen. It is said that Grossman was inspired by the shape of women's hats of the time. The "G10" floor lamp scores with a great mix of materials: the surface of the lampshade made of thermo-lacquered metal is rough and irregular and forms a great contrast to the smooth and elegant base made of polished brass. The diffuser made of opal glass enables efficient, even light distribution without glare. The lampshade has a brass joint that allows it to be tilted as required. As a small, fine detail, an on/off switch, also made of brass, is attached to the top of the lampshade.
